Spurs must move only for Brooks, not Wilson

There will no doubt need to be an overhaul of the Tottenham Hotspur squad this summer after two barren transfer windows.

That’s why it will have come as no surprise to the Spurs faithful to see The Sun report on Friday that Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing an £80million double deal for Bournemouth duo Callum Wilson and David Brooks.

However, when you stop and think about it in the cold light of day, only one of those men is worth bringing to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and it’s the latter.

We all know the score when Spurs are linked with strikers: Pochettino wants someone to come in and play second fiddle to Harry Kane. That’s what happens when you have the best number nine in world football in your team.

So the first problem is, is Wilson really going to want to swap regular football for a spot warming the bench in north London? Secondly, it’s highly unlikely that the Cherries will sanction the departure of two of their best players, particularly to the same team – it would rob them of the spine of their side.

Brooks, though, is a quintessential Pochettino player. This lad is perfect for the Tottenham boss. He’s hard working, young and extremely gifted technically.

If Christian Eriksen does leave the club this summer then Brooks is a perfect replacement for him. He was outstanding for Eddie Howe’s team this season, and he’d only get better working under Spurs’ inspirational Argentine.

No, chairman Daniel Levy must cut this £80million swoop in half. Brooks is the man Spurs need, Wilson would merely be a bench-warmer.
