OPINION
Many different outlets, including the BBC, are reporting that Tottenham have tabled a club-record £53million bid for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso – and fans are absolutely thrilled.
However, it might not be a straightforward move. The 23-year-old Argentina international has an £88million release clause and the BBC claim that Betis want a fee closer to that for the player who still has four years left on his contract.
Spurs haven’t signed a player since Lucas Moura back in January 2018 and the most they have ever spent on a player is the £42million it cost for Davinson Sanchez.
They are expected to bring new faces into north London this summer and plenty of activity has been reported, but would Daniel Levy actually sanction a move that would double his club-record fee? We’re not so sure about that but Betis could be just holding out for as much as they can get.
Lo Celso would be a serious signing though and he would walk into pretty much any midfield in the world. It would be a real statement of intent from Levy and these Tottenham fans are praying it happens:
Way way Better than Lamela

Exceptional signing just like he would have been last year at the knockdown price. Now everyone’s woken up to his talent & far bigger fish with deeper pockets are also sniffing around him.PSG only sold due to FFP as Mbappe loan was turning permanent hence needed to balance books

According to previous reports they want 60M themselves – as PSG are owed a 20% (?) of any future sale and therefore they would need to sell at around his €100M buyout clause if that makes sense?
