Calciomercato journalist Nicolo Schira has said that Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici is in London for a first meeting with Daniel Levy over manager Mauricio Pochettino.

He claimed that Tottenham’s resistance to letting Pochettino go could be got round by the compensation of signing a new player.

Schira made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Thursday morning.

The tweet translates: “The presence of Fabio in London is not accidental. First contact with Levy and to try to free Mauricio The Spurs resistance can fall by buying a player as compensation for the Argentine.”

OPINION

Schira is persisting with this story and the Pochettino rumours aren’t going away. The bookies actually think that Pep Guardiola will take the job and he’s odds on with certain leading outlets. Pochettino is way back in the market at 10/1 which should give some succour to Tottenham fans. However, respected Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has rubbished the Pep talk, saying that Guardiola will stay with Man City. That’s a pretty definitive take from a source who rarely gets things wrong. Pochettino said that he might leave Tottenham if he won the Champions League and that’s now a real possibility – they play Liverpool in the final on June 1. Buying a player as compensation is an interesting addition to the story and we’re presuming he means a current Juventus star. That would be a really tricky deal to negotiate though and it’s not easy to get Levy to sign at the best of times. We’re not going to hear anything official until after the Champions League final – unless Juventus snap someone else up in the meantime. Spurs fan swill be hoping that’s the case. They won’t want to lose Pochettino no-matter what player arrives as part of the deal.
