It seems cliched to say it but things will never be the same for Tottenham Hotspur if they seal Champions League glory this season.

The Lilywhites are 90 minutes – plus any extra time and penalties in Madrid – from securing Europe’s most prestigious title, with fellow English side Liverpool the only hurdle for Mauricio Pochettino and their men to overcome.

Atletico Madrid’s appearance in the final back in 2016 was perhaps the last time a relative outsider broke the ranks of the European elite – with one of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich featuring in the showdown for the past decade – and Tottenham have the chance to tear up the history books by defeating Jurgen Klopp’s men.

However, this could be about so much more than just a trophy for Tottenham – it could well transform absolutely everything in north London.

The Times report that in terms of their business worth, Spurs have been valued at £1.4billion and that securing the Champions League title would bring yet more financial strength to the club – something which is said to have piqued Joe Lewis’ interest.

The owner, who is reportedly going to be watching on in Madrid, is said to have been considering selling up for a number of years and that the current value could well have caught his attention, leaving Saturday’s showdown as a game which could determine his future.

A change of ownership could lead to major changes at Tottenham – perhaps most notably more funds available for transfers – and the plucky outsiders would surely elevate themselves into the stratosphere of footballing royalty.

Tottenham’s rise up the ranks has been impressive but it seems there is yet more untapped potential and the exit of Lewis, courtesy of Champions League glory, could bring about the change needed to unleash Tottenham’s true power.
