It is no coincidence that Tottenham’s rise up the Premier League table has coincided with England’s own impressive performances on the international stage – and the Three Lions best have Mauricio Pochettino on their Christmas card list.

The Argentine has been pivotal in the emergence of some of England’s top and emerging talents, with Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks just three of the names from north London that can expect to be regulars among Gareth Southgate’s squad.

He really has been a major figure for both club and country – albeit the Three Lions rather than his own homeland – and anyone with aspirations of making it on the international stage ought to be looking at what he is doing.

It is why Pochettino must be absolutely buzzing that Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka has revealed his hopes of playing for England in the near future, the Eagles ace reported by the Sun to be firmly on Tottenham’s transfer radar.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, he said: “The aim is England.

“I am happy playing with England and representing England, so that is what I am going to continue doing. My aim is just to keep playing and improving. By improving hopefully that does not go unnoticed and that will get me the chance.”

Crystal Palace might be a Premier League side but if he wants to get noticed a move up the table should definitely be on the cards – after all, that is the way he is going to prove he has what it takes for his country.

With a manager who has an exceptional record of developing English talent, not to mention plenty of Three Lions stars on the books, Spurs is the perfect place for Wan-Bissaka – and you know that Pochettino knows it.
