Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will be given the opportunity to spend big this summer by chairman Daniel Levy, according to the Sun.

The Argentine has had to operate on a relative shoestring over the past couple of years, and has failed to bring in any new signings during the last two transfer windows.

But according to the report, that is set to change, with Levy planning to sanction a spending spree to overhaul Spurs’ squad, funded by the side’s wildly successful new stadium.

OPINION

This will be music to the ears of Tottenham fans. Pochettino has done a marvellous job with the tools at his disposal, make no mistake, and with the club still in with a real chance of making a Champions League final after having made no signings over the past two transfer windows, the Argentine should be lauded for his work. That being said, if Spurs are serious about becoming proper title contenders, they need to start spending. Without a serious injection of funds, you worry that this is as far as Pochettino can take the team. The league will always be just out of reach for a side lacking in depth as much as Tottenham are, and so it will be huge relief to fans to hear that Levy is planning to do something to remedy that issue. Perhaps this is the first step towards Tottenham finally realising their full potential.
