Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier has suggested that Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier could cause an issue for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the Champions League final.

Trippier’s form has dipped over the course of the season, and the right-back has been left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming Nations League semi-final in Portugal, despite his strong form from the previous campaign making him a key part of the side that reached the 2018 World Cup semi-finals last year.

Le Tissier believes that Trippier could prove to be an issue for Tottenham defensively and suggested that Liverpool will be too strong for Pochettino’s side in the final.

“Trippier has been the weakest link in Tottenham’s defence and Hugo Lloris has made a couple of errors, so I think on the whole, Liverpool should be just a little bit stronger in each department and there is not any great logic that tells you Tottenham should win this game,” Le Tissier has told Sky Sports ahead of the final.

OPINION

Le Tissier’s comments about Trippier being the potential weak link in Tottenham’s defence ahead of the Champions League final could be correct, after the England international’s form has dipped in the last 12-months. Trippier was one of Tottenham’s best performers the previous campaign and also played a starring role for England in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, even scoring an excellent free-kick in the semi-final against Croatia. However, as Le Tissier suggests the defender has made some defensive errors this campaign which have cost Pochettino’s side at times during the season. hat dip in form has led to the right-back being dropped from the Englans squad for the Nations League finals in the summer, which will have been a big blow to the defender. Trippier will be hopeful that he can get back to his best for the Champions League final and help Tottenham to claim their maiden trophy under Pochettino. While Tottenham supporters will also be hopeful that Le Tissier is wrong about Liverpool being too strong for their side ahead of the final.
