Ajax fans soaked the media box with beer after Lucas Moura scored the winning goal in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night, according to Alasdair Gold.

The Football.London journalist sent a video from Amsterdam showing the “Spurs players and Poch getting some love from the fans” after the dramatic 96th-minute goal.

Gold apologised for the dodgy footage saying, “Ajax fans threw beer all over the media when the winning goal went in and my phone’s a bit soaked”.

OPINION

With all eyes on Lucas Moura and the Tottenham players, it’s easy to forget what was going through the minds of the Ajax fans after that late winning goal. For every ecstasy there has to be agony in football, and after taking a 3-0 lead by half-time the Ajax fans would already have been celebrating. The capitulation in the second-half would have been painful to watch, but the way the game ended would have been heartbreaking. It also sparked some anger by the sounds of it as well, and we can only assume that the Tottenham supporters in the media box were what prompted the beer shower. Journalists like Gold would have been fairly jubilant and that would have wound up the Ajax fans. You’ve got to feel sorry for the Ajax journalists in the box. They would have had to write up one of the most miserable reports in their careers while soaked in stale beer. As for Tottenham, it’s one of the defining nights in their history and it means the season, that threatened to end with a whimper, could go out on the biggest bang of them all.
