Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to comment on Tottenham’s loss to Bournemouth as it means they have yet again failed to confirm their top-four finish in the Premier League.

The fixture saw Bournemouth register their first ever Premier League victory over Spurs, after controversy surrounding the away side which saw them fall down to nine men after two red cards.

In a statement posted on his personal Twitter account, Lineker said: “Not sure what the attraction is of the Europa League, but some of our clubs seem desperate to be in it.”

The BBC presenter’s tweet was cheeky and poked fun at how the sides competing to finish in the top-four have all dropped the ball lately, but many Tottenham fans won’t see the funny side and will simply roll their eyes out of frustration.

This is because the clash with the Cherries shouldn’t have been a game which Tottenham lost, as with no disrespect to the Bournemouth players, they are the better side.

The two red cards in the game obviously completely changed the pattern of football over the 90 minutes, and the away side could have quite possibly brought home the three points if Son Heung-Min and Juan Foyth hadn’t been sent off.

However, the result perfectly reflected Spurs’ performance, and the situation that they’re in chasing a Champions League spot, they can not afford to be getting players sent off in the manner of which they did.

There is no doubt that Mauricio Pochettino will have been angry after the final whistle, however he will not have come to terms with the fact that his side could be playing Europa League football next season, even after such a successful run this year in the Champions League.

The Europa League may be welcoming the North London club next season after Saturday’s result, if everything else goes against them, assuming Pochettino’s men can’t win the Champions League this season and qualify automatically.
