Musician Noel Gallagher sent Tottenham a message ahead of them facing Liverpool in the Champions League final as he shared his support for the London club.

Gallagher, who is a known Manchester City fan, claimed that Spurs needed to win the tournament for British football while celebrating his side beating the Reds to the Premier League title.

“Come on Tottenham, you need to do it for British football,” said Gallagher on BBC Radio 5 Live (18:44, Sunday May 12th).

Tottenham are set to face Liverpool in the Champions League final on June 1st after they overcame Ajax in the semi-final.

OPINION

Gallagher seems to want Jurgen Klopp’s side to end this season empty handed when it comes to silverware. Gallagher’s beloved Man City beat the Reds to the Premier League title after beating Brighton 4-1 on Sunday yet it seems that isn’t enough for the musician. The 51-year-old’s message to Spurs is rather bizarre as he is wishing for them to win the Champions League for British football, but Liverpool are also flying the flag for Britain. Whether Gallagher has gotten so used to rooting against the Reds that he is continuing that trend for the Champions League final is debatable, but it all seems rather odd. Then again perhaps the musician secretly has a soft spot for Spurs or he just wants the side who eliminated Man City from the tournament to go all the way so he can take comfort in the fact his side were knocked out by the uncrowned winner.
