Bernardo impressed with Danny Rose

Brighton defender Bernardo has picked a suprise choice for one of his standout players in the Premier League this season in the shape of Tottenham’s Danny Rose.

The Brazilian chose Spurs and England defender Rose has someone that is ‘very strong’ compared to players such as Sergio Aguero and Paul Pogba who he only described as ‘strong’.

In an exclusive interview with CalcioMercato, Bernardo said: “In Germany I met really really strong players, here, there are Pogba, Aguero, Sterling.

“A guy who impressed me so much is  Rose of Tottenham, he is very strong, as is Roberto Pereyra of Watford but, in general, in the top six teams of the championship there are only excellent players.”

Rose has been a regular in Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season, making 26 appearances and chipping in with four assists. The England international also helped his side reach their first ever Champions League final against Ajax in past weeks.

OPINION

This is a very bizarre claim from the Brighton defender. The only thing that could legitimise his claims is whether he was picked a player that plays in the same position as him. There is no doubting Danny Rose’s talent but to put him amongst the highest calibre of player seems wrong especially when at Spurs alone there are two better defenders in Belgian duo Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.  The former Leeds man has faced critics this season in a campaign where his side have lost over a third of their entire games and look to have conceded third place to rivals Chelsea and made to settle for fourth. Having said that, Pochettino prefers Rose to Welshman Ben Davies and will more than likely start the final two games of Spurs’ campaign, including the Champions League final which if they win, Bernardo’s claims would seem a little less bizarre.
