Tottenham legend Ossy Ardiles has sent an optimistic message to his former side ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg against Ajax.

Spurs suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Dutch giants on Tuesday night, and will travel to Amsterdam on Wednesday night looking to overturn that deficit.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday morning, Ardiles was eager to spread some optimism ahead of the clash.

He said: “Lots of confidence for the return leg. Do we have a chance? You’re kidding. Of course, we have.

“Believing in our Manager, Mauricio, more than ever. To wave his magic wand once more. And our players… tired, wounded… but still fighting to the end.

OPINION

Ardiles is Spurs through and through, and it really is great to see. The Argentine was a firm favourite back in his day, and that status will continue to live on for as long as he posts heartfelt rambles like this one. In amongst all the emotion though, he raises some decent points. One goal is nothing in a tie like this, and if Spurs can strike early next week, they will feel that they have a great chance of overturning this slim deficit. A lot of that will, of course, rest on who they have available for the game, but Son Heung-min is nailed on for a return. and even he alone would make a massive difference to this Spurs side. A little bit more pace, a tad more cutting edge, and they can cause Ajax some serious problems. Get Moussa Sissokoon from the start as well, and this could be a game with an entirely different complexion to it.
