Southampton are monitoring Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana’s situation, with the England international questioning whether he has a future at Anfield, according to a report from The Express.

The outlet report that Lallana is fearing that he has no future at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, after making just five starts for the Reds this season as they finished runners-up to Manchester City, and that the 31-year-old is thought to have told friends he is welcoming the opportunity to move to Southampton this summer, .

Lallana joined Liverpool from Southampton for £25million in the summer of 2014, but the midfielder has suffered injury problems in recent seasons, and Klopp is now thought to be open to being tempted to sell the Englishman who still has a contract with the Reds until 2020, but Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side might have to pay £13million to secure any deal and they are thought to be concerned over his injury troubles.

Good move for Southampton?

Bringing Lallana back to Southampton would probably be a popular move amongst most Saints supporters, with the midfielder graduating from the club’s academy and helping them earn promotions from League 1 to the Premier League, before moving to Liverpool in 2014.

The 31-year-old would bring some extra experience, with the skillful midfielder earning 34 England caps throughout his career so far, to a Southampton side that has been fighting against relegation from the top flight in recent seasons.

Lallana would also help to provide some added creativity to Southampton’s midfield, with the Saints only scoring just 45 Premier League goals this season, with only five teams finding the net less frequently than that.

The England international would cost £13million, which is a reasonable figure considering he cost Liverpool £25million in 2014, though it would be a slight risk given his injury problems in recent seasons.

Lallana though could well be worth the risk if he is able to remain fully fit, which if he does will mean the Saints would have a quality player at their disposal next season.

Likely to Happen?

Southampton will have to wait and see whether Lallana is going be given a role in Klopp’s side at Liverpool next season, or if the 31-year-old will be allowed to leave the club during the summer window.

If Liverpool do make the Englishman available for a transfer then Southampton seems a potentially likely destination for him, given his connection with the club and his reported willingness to re-join the side he left in 2014.

Hassenhuttl will be aiming to add some extra creativity to his side, after managing to keep Southampton in the Premier League after replacing Mark Hughes mid-way through the campaign, and Lallana could well be the player who could provide that next season.
