Newcastle United have allowed an interested party to reach the data room stage of the takeover process as interest builds in the club ahead of the summer, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claim on their website that the heat  Magpies have numerous parties keen on a potential deal to buy Mike Ashley out and that sources close to one claim that they have been granted access to examine the books.

This development is said to have happened with a number of parties in the past and that the problems arise when trying to negotiate with Ashley, but that there are still numerous potential investors waiting in the wings.

Opinion

The Premier League season is almost over and so it should come as no surprise to see that takeover talk is ramping up at Newcastle United once again. Mike Ashley seems to be keen to sell up but no one has matched his asking price. With the Magpies having confirmed their place among the elite of English football for another season, more and more parties might start coming forward to try and tempt Ashley into giving them control of one of English football’s sleeping giants. Newcastle fans are desperate to see their side show some ambition but with the Sports Direct supremo in charge, leaving little to no transfer funds for Rafael Benitez to call upon, that has not yet happened. Only a change of ownership will give the Toon Army what they want and it is why this latest development is sure to have them with more questions than answers.
