Newcastle United’s young starlet, Matty Longstaff, is wanted by several clubs who want to take the 19-year-old on loan, according to Chronicle Live.

Brother of Sean Longstaff, Matty had offers from Bury and Falkirk in January. The Magpies are now prepared to let the youngster go out on loan to gain vital experience, despite the offers not being accepted back in the January window.

Bradford City, who will play next season in League Two, are the front-runners to take Longstaff on loan. Bradford boss, Gary Bowyer, took brother Matty on loan whilst he was in charge at Blackpool and now wants his younger brother at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Swindon Town are another club that are said to be interested in taking the youngster on loan.

Good move for Newcastle?

The move will not affect Newcastle in the short-term. With the success that the Magpies have had with Sean Longstaff, Rafa Benitez will know just how important it is to send youngsters out on loan. Gary Bowyer helped with the development of Sean Longstaff and will be hoping to do the same with Sean, it would be a wise move from the Magpies to allow Sean to progress with Bowyer. It’s essential to allow academy players to gain crucial game-time in the professional game and this move will only have positive effects for Newcastle.

Is it likely?

Given that Longstaff is so young and is yet to appear for the first-team, it’s highly likely that the midfielder will depart on loan next season. Gary Bowyer clearly rates the brothers and it’s hardly surprising to see Bradford now interested. Newcastle are keen to let him develop and learn the tricks of the trade and League Two would be a good starting point for the 19-year-old.
