Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett believes his teammates are ready to have a “massive say” in which way the Premier League title goes in their game with Liverpool on Saturday night.

In the penultimate game of the season, Liverpool travel to Newcastle knowing that a win will take the title race to the final game of the season, with just one point separating them from Manchester City.

With Newcastle safe from relegation, Dummett insists his side are still seeking three points and will look to replicate their shock win over Manchester City against another title challenger – although also warned his teammates it will not be easy.

The Welsh defender told the Chronicle: “We could have a massive say in what happens”.

“We’re professionals, and we want to do well for ourselves. We’ll be preparing this week and hopefully get the three points.

“It’s going to be a difficult game as Liverpool have only lost one game this season. It’s going to be difficult, for sure, so we’ll have to be at our best to beat them.”

Newcastle were the last side to beat Manchester City in the league back in January and Dummett is calling on his team mates to do the same again to Liverpool this time.

OPINION

No one would have expected Newcastle to beat Manchester City the way they did back in January and this game will be no different to the neutral. Rafael Benitez’ side will most certainly believe that they can cause a shock against the title contenders on Saturday which would do City a massive favour. It could happen very easily, Saturday is the best time that they could come up against the Reds who have just suffered a thrashing at the hands of Barcelona and Lionel Messi in particular. They will now have to travel back and will most likely only get one full day of preparation for the fixture. Alongside Liverpool’s slight troubles, Newcastle have enjoyed a great month of form with the second half against Brighton on Saturday being the only blip. If they can put a foothold on the game from the first whistle and stop Liverpool from attacking on the break then they will have a great chance of picking up the three points or at least one.
