Newcastle United are to sell a trio of forwards this summer as they look to seal a deal for Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish publication claim on their website that along with Dwigh Gayle and Joselu, who have both fallen out of favour under manager Rafael Benitez, 2018 signing Yoshinori Muto is also set for the exit just a year after signing for the club.

It is said that Newcastle will look to fill the void left up front by their departures with Colombian international Morelos, who scored 30 goals for Rangers across all competitions this season, as well as sealing a permanent deal for Salomon Rondon.

Good move for Newcastle?

Morelos was unproven before moving to Scotland and has ripped it up north of the border, regularly finding the back of the net – although he has also found himself on the wrong side of the officials far too often.

With no record of scoring in a competitive league, that £20million price tag is completely unfeasible and anyone willing to pay that needs to get their head looked at.

Not only is he a ticking time bomb in terms of his discipline, his record against the likes of Celtic, the biggest and best that Scottish football has to offer, is worrying, with not one goal against the Gers’ fiercest rivals.

Scoring goals in Scotland is one thing but he would have to hit the ground running to warrant that sort of fee. The Magpies would be better keeping Dwight Gayle on board.

Likely to happen?

There are too many variables for this one to be considered a goer just yet.

Newcastle would have to offload three forwards for a price they are happy with – no easy feat – and try to convince Rangers to part with one of their best players.

Morelos might leave, but do not expect him to be playing in black and white any time soon.
