Gary Neville revealed he had to stop himself mocking Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher when Vincent Kompany scored in Manchester City’s 1-0 win against Leicester City.

Neville was on commentary for Man City’s win on Monday that moved them back above Liverpool in the Premier League table and shared he nearly said Kompany “you dancer” when the defender scored with 20 minutes to go.

“There was twenty minutes to go on the clock and I was going to say Vincent Kompany you dancer but I thought it was a little bit early to go with that line so I held it back,” said Neville on Monday Night Football (Sky Sports Premier League, May 6th, 22:05).

Carragher famously shouted “Salah you little dancer” (Source: The Sun) when the Egyptian scored to ensure Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 to stay in the race for the Premier League title in March.

OPINION

Kompany’s goal was a joy to behold as no one expected the experienced centre-back to have that in his locker. If the Man City captain had headed home a corner to get Pep Guardiola’s side a win, you may have expected it, but he scored an absolute screamer to make the Premier League title look even more destined to be heading to the Etihad Stadium. However just like Neville made clear, the race for the title isn’t completely over. It’s still possible that Liverpool could pip Man City to the post they just have to rely on Brighton doing them a favour by pulling off the shock to end all shocks by defeating Guardiola’s team. Brighton have been in terrible form in recent weeks, even though they drew 1-1 with Arsenal in their last outing, and it’s hard to see them overcoming Man City. However Liverpool fans will be hoping there is one last twist to the tale and until it’s mathematically confirmed they’ve missed out on the title, they won’t give up.
