Tam McManus took to social media to urge Rangers to sign Ryan Kent from Liverpool after his successful loan spell at Ibrox.

The BBC pundit claimed the Gers should make the 22-year-old Reds winger their number one target this summer as it would be a real statement on intent by the club.

McManus also added that Kent terrorised Celtic when he played them in his 2018/19 campaign, and the pundit made the remarks after The Sun reported that Aston Villa were keen on signing the 22-year-old.

“Be a real statement of intent by Rangers if they can get Kent back. Should be their number 1 target this Summer. Terrorised Celtic,” wrote McManus on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Would anyone argue with McManus’ remarks on Kent? Surely not. The pundit is spot-on to claim that the Gers should make him their No.1 transfer target as he wowed while on loan with Steven Gerrard’s side. Kent played 43 times for the Scottish giants, scoring six goals while racking up nine assists. Without Kent to call upon, the Gers lack a creative spark in their midfield and that will harm their chances of competing with Celtic for silverware next season. While Rangers could look to raid the transfer market for an alternative to Kent, why look elsewhere. The 22-year-old would be able to hit the ground running next season if signed as he already knows the club inside and out. The only issue is whether the Gers have the funds to compete with Villa. The Sun report that Aston Villa are willing to buy Kent regardless of whether they win promotion to the Premier League and that shows how serious they are about to signing him.
