OPINION

Sky Sports football expert Martin Tyler has given his verdict on Tottenham’s performance this season and believes that they are a club on the up.

After giving his opinions on the other clubs currently battling at the top of the Premier League, Tyler praised Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham on their season so far.

“All you try to do for next season is better the one you’ve just done.” said Tyler to talkSPORT (17:11, Monday May 6th)

“To some extent you could argue that Spurs might be in the Champions League final, they might,

“They’ve got a reasonable chance I think, so are you going to say that’s a poor season?”

Spurs have already effectively secured themselves in a Champions League spot for next season, assuming their North London rivals Arsenal don’t pull off a miracle in the final game of the campaign.

Pochettino’s side could still actually secure a 3rd place finish in their final game of the season if Chelsea fail to get a result, and when you’re in a league with two clubs battling for the title with the quality that Liverpool and Manchester City have, finishing in 3rd or 4th place must be considered a brilliant achievement.

Arguably, Spurs have the best chance out of the remaining Premier League sides to bring home Champions League glory, after Liverpool fell to a 3-0 defeat away at Barcelona.

Tottenham would have to overturn a 1-0 deficit if they were to progress into the final of the Champions League, however they are a side with lots of fight in them, as shown by their quarter-final fixtures with Manchester City.

The North London club are definitely on the up, and with the recent arrival of their brand new stadium, it holds a promise for the club of better things to come.

There have been lots of doubters in recent years, suggesting Spurs are always going to be the club who ‘puts the pressure’ on the bigger sides, and nothing more.

Pochettino could certainly silence his doubters should Spurs reach the final of the Champions League, whether he brings silverware back to London or not, and this would certainly be a fitting reward for his excellent management so far in his time at the club.

So with that in mind Tyler is spot-on to speak so highly of Spurs.
