Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that goalkeeper Dean Henderson could get a chance in the Premier League with Sheffield United next season.

The 22-year-old has played in every Championship game for the Blades this season and has kept an impressive 21 clean sheets in those 46 outings.

Speaking to United’s official website, Solskjaer admitted that the Englishman could be sent back out on loan to South Yorkshire upon the expiration of his current deal.

“Next year, let’s see what we do with Dean,” the manager said. “He’s obviously won promotion with Sheffield United and that’s been fantastic for him. If he plays a year in the Premier League for them, it might be the best thing.”

OPINION

There’s no two ways about it: Henderson has been magnificent in goal for the Blades this season and it would surely have crossed Solskjaer’s mind that the goalkeeper could play a serious part in United’s first team next term. After all, David de Gea – unlike in other seasons – has hardly pulled up trees. In fact, he has made countless errors throughout this season and is at risk of being sold. This would mean Sergio Romero and Lee Grant are the other two goalkeepers at United and – if the club are not willing to splash out on a replacement such as Gianluigi Donnarumma – Henderson would be the ideal man to step into the role given his season. However, Blades manager Chris Wilder is desperate to keep hold of the stopper and these latest quotes suggest that Solskjaer wouldn’t mind letting the Englishman go out on loan again. This one will be one to watch.
