Manchester United have offered Benfica attacker Joao Felix a five-year contract worth £98,000-a-week, according to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira.

The Italian journalist claims that Man United have offered the 19-year-old Portuguese wide-forward that deal as they’re really interested in signing him.

Schira states that Man United are continuing to talk with Benfica about Felix and that they could possibly pay £103.9million for him in order to trigger the release clause in his contract.

“#ManchesterUnited are really interested in signing #JoaoFelix from #Benfica for €120M and they could pay the clause. Contacts ongoing. #RedDevils have offered to him a contract until 2024 (€6M plus bonus at year). #transfers #MUFC #mutd,” wrote Schira on his personal Twitter account.

Good move for Man United?

No, it’s one that reeks of desperation.

Felix may be great and have a bright future in football but potentially paying over £100million for him is ludicrous and a waste of money.

Then there’s the fact that Man United are tabling a ridiculous contract offer to lure him to Old Trafford as £98,000-a-week plus bonuses, as that is what 6million euros a year works out as, is crazy money to be paying a teenager.

Felix scored 20 goals and 11 assists in 43 outings for Benfica but surely Man United can find an equally good attacker for a much lower price.

Likely to happen?

Based on Schira’s update, then Manchester United are determined to sign the Portuguese forward one way or another.

This means that until sources say otherwise, it can’t be ruled out that Felix is possibly heading to Manchester United.

However it seems hard to believe that Man United would want to break the bank for a young forward in such a way, as surely it would be the majority of the summer transfer kitty down the drain.
