Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Sporting Lisbon midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes as the summer transfer window begins to approach, according to Sky Sports

The broadcaster report the two clubs involved in the deal have been discussing a fee between £50million and £60million, and it is believed that Fernandes could be the man to be the successor to Fernandinho.

Sky Sports claim that Fernandes is keen on a move to the Etihad Stadium and previously had the likes of  Atletico Madrid and West Ham interested in him last summer.

Good move for City?

Yes, a very good move.

This is a player who has completely dominated in the Liga NOS so far this season, and at the age of 24-years-old he is in the prime of his playing career, so now would be the perfect time for him to make the switch to the English giants, as he will have time to adjust before getting back to his best.

The midfielder has scored 22 goals in his last 39 appearances in all competitions for Sporting CP, which is a good initial sign and shows that he is versatile.

With Fernandinho approaching the end of his career, this would certainly be a smart move for Pep Guardiola to bring the midfielder in.

Likely to happen?

Very likely as Man City can afford to spend somewhere between £50million and £60million to get him.

Any player would surely jump at the chance to play under Guardiola, and be challenging at the top of the Premier League, week-in week-out.

Although the player has only recently signed a new five-year deal with his current club, money talks, and the reported fee would be a good deal for both parties should it come to fruition.

Playing at the Etihad just seems like too much of an attractive move to turn down.
