Liverpool have scouted Leeds’ wonderkid defender Leif Davis after the teenager’s breakthrough season at Elland Road, according to the Sun

The 19-year-old left-back made his breakthrough into the first-team this season, mainly because of the injury problems Leeds were facing.

He arrived last summer from Morecambe and made five appearances in total, four in the Championship, and has impressed Marcelo Bielsa.

The report claims that Bielsa is a fan and wants to continue developing the player if he commits to another season at Elland Road.

However, Liverpool are looking for cover for Andrew Robertson and have scouted Davis, and Bournemouth are also interested in the £4m-rated defender.

OPINION

It’s not surprising that Leeds youngsters are being targeted this summer after a season when so many of them were put in the spotlight by Marcelo Bielsa. If he decides to stay on for another season then Leeds will have a greater chance of holding onto the players, but if Liverpool make a serious offer for Davis then he will surely have his head turned. To be mentioned in the same breath as Robertson will be seriously flattering, and developing under him and Jurgen Klopp at one of the biggest clubs in the world would be a very tempting prospect. Leeds may well have to sell to rebuild this summer and a bid of £4million would surely have to be considered, but Leeds would be much better served selling some of the more experienced, older players and keeping hold of their great young talent. Players like Davis are the future. Pontus Jansson has been a fine servant for Leeds but would fetch more and it could be a better option to look at a deal for him, along with players like Gaetano Berardi and even Patrick Bamford.
