Wow, what a night! In one of the greatest European nights of all time, Liverpool came back from 3-0 down against Barcelona, without Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, to shock the world with a 4-0 win.
Two goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and two from Divock Origi saw the Reds into the final in Madrid in June, but fans were blown away by young full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
He was sensational and the man-of-the-match for a lot of Liverpool fans and he showed true footballing intelligence and vision when he set-up the 79th minute winner for Origi. From a corner, with the entire Barcelona defence asleep, Alexander-Arnold fired a low corner across to the Liverpool striker who finished to send the Anfield faithful into delirium.
The last 15 minutes seemed like an eternity and although Liverpool had the chance to finish things off late on, they had to sweat the full 90+5 minutes with Barcelona circling and looking for a way through.
There wasn’t one. Liverpool to a man were unbelievable but Liverpool fans paid special tribute to Alexander-Arnold after a game – and a season – where he’s established himself as a world-class player.
