BBC pundit Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Liverpool youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold after a standout season for the 20-year-old.

The right-back added another assist in the 2-0 win against Wolves on Sunday, making his tally 12 for the season and six in the last six games.

His form this season have been enough to win him a place in Crooks’ game of the season and the BBC pundit said he would be “world class” in two years.

Writing in his BBC column Crooks said, “Trent Alexander-Arnold has produced a number of sparkling performances which have been acknowledged this season in my team of the week.

“This lad has grown in stature and confidence at an alarming rate. However nothing prepared me for the incredible initiative he showed when he spotted Barcelona napping in their own 18-yard box before presenting Divock Origi with the chance to score Liverpool’s fourth goal in their Champions League semi-final win.

“At this rate he could be an England regular in a year and world-class in two.”

OPINION

Some of the crosses that Alexander-Arnold has put in in the last few weeks have been astonishing. Not many players can cross from so far out and put the ball on a sixpence. Six assists in the last six games would be good for a winger or an attacking midfielder, let alone a right-back. Alexander-Arnold is the future of Liverpool and England at right-back, and it’s an exciting prospect for both sides. Liverpool’s left-back Andrew Robertson also got himself in the Team of the Season, and between them these two players have been involved in 30 goals this season – that’s a preposterous statistic for a pair of full-backs. They played a huge part in a phenomenal season for Liverpool, who were hugely unlucky to get 97 points and still not win the league. With the players Jurgen Klopp has in his side, the first Premier League title at Anfield is surely just around the corner. Unfortunately for them, they’re up against possibly the best Premier League side of all time in Pep Guardiola’s Man City.
