Chelsea have been offered the chance to speak to Spanish manager Julen Lopetegui, according to The Times

The newspaper report that Chelsea have been offered a chance to speak with Lopetegui with him being a potential successor to Sarri should the club part ways with the Italian.

The Spaniard is looking for new work after being sacked by Real Madrid in October, after taking charge of only 14 games at the Bernabeu, and is being represented by the agent Jorges Mendes who has been involved in various on-goings at Chelsea over the years.

Massimiliano Allegri and Frank Lampard are also thought to be candidates to replace Sarri.

OPINION

Sarri hasn’t been the most appreciated manager since his arrival at Stamford Bridge in July 2018, but has managed to get the club to the final of the Europa League in his first season, which is an undeniable achievement. After not even passing a single year in the job at Chelsea, it seems the Italian is already being tipped for the sack, especially if Chelsea fail to bring the Europa League home against Arsenal. However, would the former Real Madrid manager Lopetegui be the right man for the job? After failing to impress with the Spanish giants earlier on this season, Lopetegui was subsequently sacked by Madrid and is yet to find another job in management since his departure. It would make for an interesting switch-up in West London, but the outcome can’t be predicted as Lopetegui has never managed in the Premier League, and it has proven a significantly difficult task in the past for foreign managers to come in and try their hand at the English game. Only time will tell, but this move could end up either being a drastic one for Chelsea, or instead, a step in the right direction for the London club.
