Simon Jordan shared he would be surprised if Mauricio Pochettino left Tottenham upon winning the Champions League trophy.

The former Crystal Palace chairman revealed that he thought Pochettino still had a lot more to achieve at Spurs even if his side beat Liverpool in the Champions League final.

Jordan then pointed out how Liverpool won the Champions League in 2005 in order to share that he thought the Reds would rather have won the Premier League, and added it’d be the same story with Spurs.

“I’d be surprised and disappointed if he didn’t (didn’t stay), but if he wins the Champions League then he has almost justified his departure as he says right thank you look what I have left you with and I think there’s a very distinct possibility they can win the Champions League,” said Jordan on talkSPORT (16:08, Friday May 24th).

“Well I think the world is his oyster, well look I think (winning the Champions League) will be the starting point for something, if they win the Champions League why does that have to be the zenith, look at Liverpool as they won the Champions League in 2005 but there would be nothing more that they want then to have won the English Premier League.

“So I think if Tottenham win the Champions League and it reverts back to the Premier League, their fans will take even greater pride over being the best team over 38 games in the league they’re playing in.

“So I think there’s a lot more he could do, all be it a league based tournament.”

OPINION

Jordan is spot-on with his verdict on Pochettino as the Spurs manager shouldn’t throw in the towel at the club if his side lift the Champions League. While it would be a huge achievement to beat the Reds to the prestigious trophy, Pochettino will surely still have ambitions to lift the Premier League with the club. The Spurs manager has effectively built his current squad from scratch, so will want to see the job through. Pochettino may have said he will “go home”, as quoted by The Telegraph, if his side lifted the trophy in June; but surely that was just his way of sending a message to Daniel Levy. The Spurs chairman hasn’t sanctioned any signings in the last two transfer windows and if Pochettino’s side win the Champions League, he will need reinforcements to build on that success in the summer. This is because there is only so many miracles the Spurs boss can pull off with the current tools he has.
