Jermaine Jenas shared that if he was Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino he probably wouldn’t start Harry Kane against Liverpool in the Champions League final.

The former Spurs player shared it was a tough call for the Argentinean to make but as it stood he’d be leaning towards not playing him.

“If I was in Mauricio’s shoes, it’s a tough call but I’d be leaning towards not starting him,” said Jenas on BBC Radio 5 Live (20:14, Thursday May 24th).

Jenas had previously explained that he would avoid starting Kane just because the first 30 minutes against Liverpool are bound to be frantic and because Pochettino had other options to choose from.

“I think it’s about picking your moment as we all know the first 30 minutes of games are frantic, there aren’t many gaps out there and it’s going to be a tentative start,” explained Jenas (20:10).

“You could go Son-Moura, Son-Llorente, there are plenty of options at the top-end of the pitch.”

OPINION

Kane hasn’t featured since the 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League due to injury and so there’s a chance he won’t be 100% by the time the Champions League final comes around. So with that in mind, it’s easy to see why Jenas is slightly against the 25-year-old starting against the Reds. The Champions League final against Jurgen Klopp’s side is arguably the biggest game in Spurs’ recent history and every player on the pitch needs to be at their best to give them a good chance of winning it. Liverpool have wowed everyone this season by almost denying Manchester City the Premier League title and they will be a tough team for Spurs to overcome. While Kane has scored 24 goals in 39 outings, Spurs have proven their ability to cope without him this season. It would make much more sense to keep the attacker on the bench and use him in the match when they need to change things up top.
