Arsenal midfielder Charlie Gilmour sent Rangers attacker Glenn Middleton a message after the Gers winger took to Instagram to mark the end of the 2018/19 season.

Middleton took to his personal Instagram account on Monday simply to say the 2018/19 season was finished alongside a picture of him celebrating.

“Season 18/19 finished,” wrote the Gers winger.

This prompted Gilmour to send Middleton a one-worded message saying “highlights” which appeared to be the young midfielder’s way of praising the teenager for his breakthrough season.

“Highlights,” wrote Gilmour via his Instagram account.

OPINION

It’s interesting that Gilmour opted to heap praise on Middleton following the season ending, as you feel he is no doubt concerned about his own future. The 20-year-old may have made his senior debut for Arsenal in the 2018/19 season in the Europa League, he ended up featuring twice, but he is looking for a new club. Gilmour previously confirmed on his Instagram account that he was leaving the Gunners after 14-years at the London club and even joked that clubs should slide into his direct messages as he was soon to be a free agent. However maybe the fact the 20-year-old took the time to praise Middleton was just his support of Rangers shining through. The Scottish Sun previously revealed that the Arsenal youngster was a Gers supporter, so clearly he was just speaking as a fan when singling out Middleton for praise. Yet then again maybe Gilmour was just trying to grease the wheels for a potential move to Ibrox as that’s surely his dream based on who he supports.
