Everton have made enquiries about RB Leipzig striker Jean-Kevin Augustin, according to The Telegraph.

The France Under 21 international will reportedly cost somewhere in the region of £17.5 million if Leipzig choose to cash in on the striker this summer.

This isn’t the first time they’ve been linked with a move either – it was previously reported that they enquired about him in January too.

Augustin joined the German side from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and signed a deal to keep him with the club until 2022.

Everton will be in the market for more firepower this summer with Cenk Tosun’s future at the club remaining uncertain and competition being needed for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Marco Silva isn’t the only man interested in the Frenchman with Leicester City also expressing an interest.

Augustin has scored eight times in 29 games in all competitions this term as Leipzig claimed third spot in the German top-flight.

Good move for Everton?

Augustin has the potential to become a star in the future. The £17.5 million price that has been reported is one which seems fair and Augustin’s value could significantly increase in years to come. Cenk Tosun has failed to deliver since his £27 million arrival from Besiktas in January 2018 and his nightmare spell on Merseyside could come to an end this summer. Augustin could be his replacement and he could provide solid competition for Calvert-Lewin. The move would be a slight risk given that the Frenchman hasn’t got a proven goalscoring record but at the price that has been reported, he is a risk worth taking.

Likely to happen?

Everton need a new striker and Augustin could well fit the bill. But will Everton want to take another risk on a player untested in the Premier League after Tosun? The 21-year-old is also attracting interest from other clubs and Everton will have to fend off competition to win the race. It is still early days in terms of the transfer window and rumours are already in full flow, and we don’t expect this deal to materialise any time soon. It could be one for later in the window if they exhaust other possibilities.
