Everton should sell Turkish striker Cenk Tosun this summer and use the money as part of an investment in a better attacking prospect such as David Neres.

Tosun, signed by former Toffees boss Sam Allardyce in January 2018, has made 24 Premier League appearances but only played for 960 minutes in that time, which is less than half of the total number of minutes in that time.

In fact, Tosun, 27, who has only played 41 minutes for the Blues in the last three months, has been placed on the club’s transfer list by manager Marco Silva according to Turkish outlet Askam.

Should Tosun leave, we doubt the club will get nowhere near the £27m they paid for him last year; for one, he hasn’t played enough and in the time that he has played, two league goals and three assists is a meagre return.

But if Tosun leaves, Everton should put whatever money they get for him towards a move for 22-year-old Ajax winger Neres, with whom the Blues have been linked this season.

The Brazilian has been a key man for Ajax this season, scoring 12 goals and laying on 15 others in 50 appearances for the Dutch side.

It is in the Champions League where Neres has shone, however, with fantastic performances against Real Madrid and Juventus helping his side reach the semi-finals against Tottenham.

It is likely that Ajax will not have the resolve to keep hold of their best players this summer, and this team will get pecked at by Europe’s top clubs in the coming transfer windows.

Everton should be one of the clubs involved, and Neres would be an ideal signing for the Blues if Tosun is sold.
