Everton first teamer Dominic Calvert-Lewin can wipe away the sweat from his brow that was likely there after it was reported that the Toffees were in pursuit of Bournemouth attacker Callum Wilson.

The Sun reported on Friday that the Toffees were plotting a move for the Bournemouth forward but it seems their pursuit looks set to hit a snag based on the latest update.

The Sun’s print edition (Sunday May 19th, page 63) claimed the Cherries were planning to offer Wilson a new deal, with a pay rise attached, in order to keep him happy and fight off any bids that may come in for him.

When you consider this update clearly shows the Cherries are willing to pull out all the stops to keep Wilson, then the Toffees will have had a hard time convincing their Premier League rivals to sell him and perhaps struggle to lure him away.

Wilson scored 15 goals in 33 outings for Bournemouth in his 2018/19 campaign and his arrival would have more than likely seen Calvert-Lewin lose his starting spot in Marco Silva’s side.

The 22-year-old regularly featured for the Toffees in the recently ended season, making 38 appearances, but he managed only eight goals.

Given that Silva’s team likely have ambitions of progressing as a club and finishing higher in the Premier League table next season, the Toffees boss would have surely yanked Calvert-Lewin out of his team to replace him with Wilson if he had arrived.

This is because the Bournemouth striker has proven himself to be clinical in the top-division unlike the Toffees attacker.

Calvert-Lewin was likely sweating over the idea of competing with Wilson for a spot in Everton’s team as result; but based on this update it seems unlikely that the Cherries forward will be rocking up at Goodison Park anytime soon.
