Burnley are confident of securing the loan signature of Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny according to Football Insider.

The news comes after Marco Silva has reportedly given the move the green light as he searches for an alternative option in the summer to rival Seamus Coleman.

According to the reputable football outlet, Everton director of football Marcel Brands has been preparing a shortlist of right-sided defenders and therefore the 22-year-old will be allowed to leave on loan.

Kenny has only featured 12 times this season for the Toffees, with three of those being in cup competitions as he struggled to directly compete with the Irish international, Coleman.

A new right back is expected to arrive in the transfer window which could be bad news for Kenny, who is not in Silva’s immediate plans at Goodison Park.

Good move for Everton?

This seems like the smartest way to go about this deal. With Everton reportedly wanting to bring in a defender that can offer more competition to Coleman, a loan move would be the best option for Kenny.

The 22-year-old will still gain Premier League experience should he join Burnley and will take confidence from the fact that it isn’t a permanent transfer away from the club. This should mean that once he returns after a possible full season in the top-flight, he would be much more suited to offer a bigger challenge in his position.

Either way, this could be a win-win situation for Marco Silva should he play his cards right.

Likely to happen?

According to the report by Football Insider, Marcel Brands has already drawn up a list of potential signings in the same position and an incoming defender looks very likely. The move suits both Everton and Burnley if the report is to turn into reality.

Burnley are likely to want a fresh, young talent in defence compared to the ageing Phil Bardsley and Kenny would be the perfect option.

If a player comes in then Kenny must take the plunge and that makes this one a strong possibility.
