The London Evening Standard reported on Friday that Everton were in pole position to sign Arsenal attacker Danny Welbeck on a free transfer in the summer. The newspaper claimed that the Toffees were leading the race for the forward as they were thought to be considering offering him an increase on his current £100,000-a-week wage and because Welbeck was keen on joining a club with Champions League ambitions. However while Everton were clearly open to the idea of having Welbeck at Goodison Park, many Toffees supporters were frustrated that their club were reportedly pursuing him. One Toffees fan vented their frustration by calling Toffees’ Director of Football Marcel Brands a fraud with the club being linked to a player like Welbeck, while others just opted to show their displeasure by ripping the attacker apart. The 28-year-old managed only eight league appearances for Arsenal in his 2018/19 campaign due to his injury problems, but given that he could be snapped up for free; surely it’s worth taking a gamble on him?
