Adrian Durham dismissed Tottenham’s chances of winning the Champions League this season after previously saying they could lift the prestigious trophy.

The talkSPORT broadcaster shared he thought Spurs would never win the Champions League before quickly changing what he said by revealing he meant they would never win it this season.

“Tottenham will never win the Champions League, well never win it this season,” said Durham on talkSPORT (18:52, Tuesday May 7th).

This is the opposite to what Durham said in April as he revealed on talkSPORT (16:06, Wednesday April 17th) that he thought Spurs were going to win the Champions League.

“So Spurs, four good games away from winning the Champions League, all they’ve got to do is keep a clean sheet tonight,” said Durham on talkSPORT (16:06, Wednesday April 17th).

“Then it’s Ajax and that’s a cruise across two legs, then possibly Liverpool in the final, Spurs can beat Liverpool can’t they? Spurs are going to win the Champions League.

“It’s in their own hands.”

OPINION

Durham has made a U-turn on his claim about Tottenham being real contenders for the Champions League and he may end up regretting changing his mind. The broadcaster seems to have given up hope that Spurs will win the prestigious trophy due to them losing 1-0 to Ajax in the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final. However Mauricio Pochettino’s side are more than capable of lifting the trophy and overcoming a 1-0 deficient doesn’t seem like an impossible task. This is especially the case when Heung-Min Son is likely to feature for Spurs in the second-leg on Wednesday as he was noticeably missed in the first-leg. The South Korean attacker is more than capable of tearing Ajax apart and you feel that he will be chomping at the bit to impress after foolishly getting himself sent off against Bournemouth at the weekend. Son has the quality needed to get Spurs goals on Wednesday and for that reason Tottenham fans shouldn’t be ready to throw in the towel just yet.
