Darren Gough has praised the services of on-loan Everton defender Kurt Zouma after an impressive season at Goodison Park.

The talkSPORT host was drooling over the 24-year old defender, whilst comparing Zouma and Michael Keane to other defensive partnerships in the Premier League.

Gough dubbed the pair special before suggesting that Zouma was a player the Toffees must keep as he urged the club to try to sign him permanently from Chelsea.

“They’re pretty special,” said Gough on talkSPORT (16:38, Monday 6th May).

“Zouma’s been really good this year hasn’t he, they’ve got to get him, they’ve got to try and get him.”

OPINION

Gough has a point about Zouma, he’s certainly been a breath of fresh air for Everton fans this season, and has partnered effectively with his central defensive partner in Keane also. With regards to a permanent deal, Marco Silva will undoubtedly be looking to bring the Frenchman back to Goodison Park as soon as possible, especially considering it will be tough task for him to win a place in Chelsea’s starting eleven after being away from the club, and it’s manager for a full year. Zouma has definitely been one of Everton’s ‘special’ players this season, and has shown exactly why he should be playing first team football consistently at Premier League level. Whether he will be in with a chance of doing this for Chelsea or not, Everton must look to sign him on a permanent basis, as he has arguably been the Toffees’ best defender this season. It would be a great signing should Silva be able to bring him back to the club next season, and he would receive a grand welcome from the Everton faithful should he make his return to Goodison Park.
