Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to give his verdict on the red card incident involving Tottenham attacker Son Heung-min against Bournemouth.

The 26-year old was sent off after a push on Jefferson Lerma following a scuffle, and that was enough to see the referee give him his marching orders.

Sutton gave his five-word opinion on the sending off from his personal Twitter account, saying: “Harsh sending off on Son…”

OPINION
In the modern game of football, it’s barely acceptable to make a hefty tackle, never mind push an opposition player over. Arguably, the Son sending off was undeserved and soft, and should’ve resulted in a yellow card. However, due to the nature of the way in which Lerma hit the deck, and the reaction of the Bournemouth players, the 26-year old was subsequently sent off. In recent years, especially in the Premier League, there has been zero tolerance with dangerous play, fighting or striking an opponent being the main example, however it sometimes seems to get a bit ridiculous when players are falling to the ground after receiving the smallest of touches. Granted, Son did push the opposition player to the ground, and it wasn’t only a small touch, but it still shouldn’t have warranted a red card. Players are being sent off too regularly for silly decisions like this in the modern game, and it will continue to happen, if not get worse in years to come.
