The Europa League final set up an encounter between two Premier League sides in Arsenal and Chelsea. After a cagey first half from both sides in Baku, the best chance fell to Olivier Giroud who forced a save from Petr Cech from outside of the box. The second half opened up massively with both Chelsea full-backs exploiting the width on offer against Arsenal, with Emerson in particular impressing from left-back against Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The Italian defender was superb in the second half as Chelsea romped to a 4-1 victory and claim the Europa League with goals from Giroud, Pedro and  a double from Eden Hazard. It was Emerson who created the opening goal for Maurizio Sarri’s side with a whipped ball in from the left for Giroud to head in. Chelsea fans were in high spirits in the second half and praised the huge impact that Emerson had on Twitter for the role the 24-year-old played in opening up their London rivals. One fan said: “Emerson, man of the match!”, another fan simply called the defender “immense”.
