Darren Bent heaped praise on Tottenham defender Danny Rose while claiming the full-back was the best player for Spurs over the two-legs against Ajax.

The former Spurs forward shared that he thought Rose was able to wow in the Champions League semi-final against Ajax as he took everything in his stride and didn’t get too excited or disappointed depending on the score.

Bent then claimed that Rose was either an 8/10 or 9/10 every week for Spurs due to his ability not to be fazed.

“I thought he was Spurs’ best player over the two legs because he doesn’t get too disappointed when they’re losing nor too over-excited when they’re winning,” said Bent on talkSPORT (Friday May 17th, 18:16).

“He takes it all in his stride and that is why he produces 8, 9 out of 10 every week.”

OPINION

Rose has turned a corner for Spurs this season, but does he really produce an 8/10 or 9/10 display every time he pulls on the shirt? It doesn’t seem like it. However Bent clearly believes this is the case and even has a theory why Rose is consistently good. It’s hard to argue with his logic about why Rose could churn out consistent performances however it does sound like the defender simply uses his experience not to lose his head. Rose has been playing football at a high level for a while now, so knows not to ever give up or throw in the towel, as football is a crazy game. This was the case against Ajax as no one could have expected Tottenham to turn the game around like they did to reach the Champions League final. While Bent’s praise of Rose may be hard to agree, there’s no denying the defender is a useful player for Mauricio Pochettino to call upon. However with Spurs still having the final with Liverpool to play, perhaps Rose can prove himself to be worthy of Bent’s praise in that match.
