Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has ruled out a move to sign Leeds United left-back Tyler Denton in the summer.

Denton, 23, has spent the season on loan at the League One club but only managed 14 appearances across all competitions as he struggled to earn game-time under the leadership of both Steve Evans and Darren Ferguson.

MacAnthony was asked on Twitter whether or not the Posh would be signing Denton on another deal this summer, but he has rubbished that notion because there are already too many left-backs at London Road.

“Nope. We have signed two left-backs already,” he said via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday.

OPINION

Even if Peterborough did want to sign Denton, would the Leeds left-back even be keen on returning to London Road? It’s safe to say that the 23-year-old had a pretty miserable time with the League One club. It wasn’t until the end of October when he made his first league appearance for them and after that he only played several more times. Denton was quite highly-rated at Leeds when he was a bit younger but this failed loan spell at London Road will no doubt be a bit of a setback for him. It suggests that he is not good enough for a top-half League One club and that means that he is nowhere near good enough for Leeds. He enters the final year of his contract in the summer and there is a good chance that Victor Orta will try to get rid of the left-back now that his time at Peterborough has come to an end. It may be a move to a lesser third-tier side or a club in League Two though for the defender.
