The brother of talismanic Leeds defender Pontus Jansson has dismissed as ‘fake news’ a report that the defender could leave Elland Road after a bust-up with manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The report said his future was “up in the air” after the bust-up and that the two had never enjoyed a good relationship.

However, writing on his personal Twitter page, Peter Jansson – who often comments on events surrounding his brother – said “Fake news from some ill-willing uninformed source”.

Jansson made the claim on Wednesday evening.

One Leeds fan said that they shouldn’t believe anything unless it comes from one of the two Jansson brothers and that people were always looking to cause trouble.

Peter Jansson replied to this saying “Well said!”

Another fan repeated the sentiment saying that “panic mode sets in every transfer window because he’s one of the most important players we have… I don’t personally believe these quotes unless you or Pontus actually tweet or Instagram.”

Peter Jansson replied saying “Thanks for the trust, Lee.”

OPINION

Peter has become the self-appointed protector of Pontus online and uses his Twitter account to debunk stories of him leaving the club. It’s got many fans on side with a couple saying they wouldn’t believe anything about Pontus unless it came from him directly or his brother. However, the rumours of Pontus leaving won’t go away this summer. They happen every year and this summer could see them reach a crescendo. Andrea Radrizzani has said that it’s going to be a tough summer for Leeds and money is tight. Leeds may well need to sell assets to rebuild and Jansson is one of the most valuable players at the club. There are plenty of fans who will be desperate for him to stay. The centre-back wears his heart on his sleeve and is fully committed to the club whenever he’s on the pitch. The sight of him slumped against the ad hoardings at Elland Road after the play-off defeat against Derby summed Pontus up and he said it was the worst game of his entire career.
