Former Championship winner Nigel Pearson has said that the vacant manager’s position at West Brom is a “very attractive proposition”.

The Baggies are looking to appoint a successor to James Shan at the Hawthorns and were reportedly in talks with Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley, but the Imps have since revealed that they have so far fielded no approaches for the manager from any club.

Pearson – who led Leicester City to the Premier League as champions of the second tier in the 2013/14 season and has previously taken assistant charge of West Brom – has not been linked with the Baggies but entertained the thought of a return.

“Is it a job which I would be interested in? Of course it would be,” the 55-year-old told the Express & Star. “It’s a club with stature and it’s a very attractive proposition. But ultimately it’s down to what direction the club want to go in.

“I was offered it when Bryan [Robson] got sacked but chose not to take it because I was Bryan’s assistant. My decision was to move on. Tony Mowbray went in and did a good job.”

OPINION

While Pearson has not been linked with the West Brom job, there is no doubting his pedigree as a manager proven to get teams out of the Championship, having done it with Leicester. His record at the Foxes was fantastic and he would do a great job in the second tier again. As for the Baggies’ search for a permanent boss, it is something they are going to need to sort out very soon. After the appointments of Darren Moore and then Shan failed to live up to their expectations, they need someone who will come in, take the club on and guide them to that next level. They almost got through to the play-off final but it was penalties that let them down, and their next manager must be one who is able to properly deliver on the promise of promotion. Whatever the case, it will be very interesting to see who they bring in.
