It is fair to say that Leeds United’s director of football has not got the best reputation around Elland Road after nearly two years in his job.

As the man in charge of recruitment for the Whites, there have not been too many successes and a significant number of failures to put to his name, most notably those from his first summer in charge.

Leeds fans might have done all they can to try and forget about the likes of Jay-Roy Grot, Caleb Ekuban, Pierre-Michel Lasogga and the rest of the shocking performers in last season’s 13th placed finish, while just how much of a success the likes of Adam Forshaw, Tyler Roberts and Patrick Bamford have been is still up for debate.

Orta’s poor record has seen him come under fire from some corners of Elland Road a number of times but if reports are to be believed, he has a summer plan which could mend his reputation in an instant.

According to Football Insider Orta has made contact with those representing Swansea City winger Daniel James – a man the Spaniard failed to bring to Elland Road in January despite having the attacker ready to sign on the dotted line – to try and sweet talk him into moving to the club this summer instead of Manchester United or another interested club.

It is a bold strategy but one which demonstrates Orta’s belief  in himself and Leeds’ potential and pulling it off would go a long way from turning the senior figure from zero to hero.
