Josh Onomah is set to tell Tottenham that he wants to leave the club on a permanent basis, according to Football Insider.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday after having spent the season before at Aston Villa.

It is understood that the midfielder will tell Spurs that he wants to quit the club that he has been at since youth level to seek first team football elsewhere.

The report suggests that a move to Wednesday is most likely.

Good move for Tottenham?

It’s a real shame when something like this happens. After making his debut as a 17-year-old, it looked for all the world as if Onomah was going to kick on and be the next big thing in north London. Circumstance has conspired against him, however, and as he has gone out on loan, he has seen other players leapfrog him in the pecking order. At this point, it is probably best that Spurs let him move on. They should fetch a decent enough fee for him, and it is absolutely the right time for the midfielder to go in search of first team opportunities.

Likely to happen?

There’s no reason why it shouldn’t. After two years out on loan, it is fair to assume that Onomah is surplus to requirements in north London, and if he is keen to leave, then why not let him go? He has made quite the impression in the Championship, and you get the feeling that Wednesday would be more than happy to take him on on a full-time basis. If all parties concerned are keen, then this should go ahead with relatively little complication.
