Journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is “not a priority” signing for Bournemouth.

According to an earlier report from Football Insider, the Cherries were said to be plotting a £15m move for the 23-year-old, who has made 46 appearances in all competitions for the Whites this season.

In an update posted by Nixon on Twitter, however, the journalist claims that the Englishman is not high on the list of targets for Eddie Howe’s side.

OPINION

This update pours some cold water on the earlier Football Insider claims that Bournemouth – following the acquisition of Bristol City defender Lloyd Kelly – were to raid the Championship again for Phillips. Although Nixon didn’t rule out interest and a possible bid from the Premier League side. He’s had a standout season for Leeds in the deep-lying midfield position. His 44 appearances in the Championship prove that Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa has trusted him time and again in the centre of the park. But Leeds, regardless of whether Phillips is wanted or not by other clubs – will surely face a real battle to keep hold of him. He is only 23 and has a lot of football ahead of him, meaning that another Premier League club could well swoop for him as an investment signing. Either way, the Whites will be desperate to keep hold of Phillips this summer.
