Man United’s move for Swansea winger Dan James is “pretty much sorted behind the scenes”, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun’s transfer expert made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Thursday, after Sky Sports had reported a £15million deal was close last week.

Nixon was responding to a fan who asked if a deal was pretty much done and if United were still favourites.

Nixon responded in the affirmative before adding, “Once Man U take an interest it’s all over”.

OPINION

It’s funny how things work out. Daniel James was pretty much a Leeds player in January. He had passed a medical at Elland Road and even recorded his welcome video, but Swansea pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute. At the time Leeds fans weren’t 100% convinced about the player. However, in the second-half of the season he looked amazing and it looks like he might have bagged himself a big-money move to one of the biggest clubs in the world. Nixon’s sources are normally good and it does sound like United are going to land the exciting young Welsh international. That’s another blow for Leeds, although as they missed out on promotion on Wednesday night they were probably out of the race anyway. If they’d bought him for £7million in January though they could have doubled their money just six months later. James is a different sort of player for United but after last season they need something different from big-money signings who don’t want to play for the club.
