Liverpool midfielder James Milner is unlikely to join Leeds United in the summer, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The reliable reporter was asked on Twitter whether he thought the experienced midfielder would be tempted to return to Leeds in the summer if the Reds won the Champions League.

However Nixon shared that he was told Leeds signing Milner was unlikely even though the supporter who asked pointed out that the Liverpool player’s love for the club was known.

“I’m told it’s unlikely,” wrote Nixon on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Milner has always spoken fondly of his time at Elland Road so that has led to his return constantly being touted. In fact the midfielder in a previous interview with Four Four Two shared it was “disappointing” that he didn’t get to stay at the club longer. However it seems Leeds fans can stop holding their breathe over whether Milner is about to rock up at their club in the summer, as it seems a move is not on the card. Milner’s Liverpool contract is set to end in July (according to Transfermarkt) but even if he does walk out of the doors at Anfield, he won’t be heading in Leeds’ direction. Based on the fact that a move to the Whites now seems unlikely based on Nixon’s information, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Milner sign a new contract with the Reds. The 33-year-old has featured 44 times for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season and the German manager seems to love having a midfielder like him to call upon.
