Newcastle United target Harry Wilson is “set to quit” Premier League runners-up Liverpool in the summer transfer window, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Wednesday [11:21am] that the 22-year-old is considering a move away from Anfield in order to increase his chances of first team football next season.

Wilson has spent the last season on loan with Championship side Derby, but is now being eyed up by Premier League sides Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Southampton.

The Sun adds that German clubs Hertha Berlin, Augsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt are all plotting bids for the Wales international.

Good move for Newcastle?

Wilson has been in stunning form at Derby, scoring 18 goals and supplying six assists in 49 appearances across all competitions for the Rams.

The 22-year-old forward definitely showcased at Pride Park that he is good enough for the step up to the Premier League, and a team like Newcastle would be perfect for him to join because he would no doubt play regularly and have a starring role in the side.

He’s never played in the top-flight but there’s no reason to think that he is worse than what Newcastle currently have to offer, especially in the wide areas and attacking midfield.

Wilson is versatile enough to play anywhere in attack and he should be someone that the Magpies push the boat out for this summer.

Likely to happen?

Transfer business has surely taken a back seat at Newcastle at the moment.

They need to sort out Rafa Benitez’s future before anything and clearly Mike Ashley is not going to invest on strengthening the playing squad with all the takeover speculation that has been about this week.

If Newcastle don’t hurry things up then Wilson will more than likely join one of their Premier League rivals or try his hand in the Bundesliga after the success of Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund.
