OPINION
It might be pretty unbelievable, but that is not stopping many Newcastle United fans from being blown away by the thought of signing Manchester United star Juan Mata in the summer transfer window. Mata, 31, is approaching the end of his deal at Old Trafford and the Sun has reported that Rafa Benitez will want to sign the Spanish playmaker if he remains as Newcastle manager. Over the last decade or so, Mata has been one of the better playmakers in the Premier League and it would no doubt be a coup for the Magpies if they completed a deal for the ex-Chelsea attacker. He is extremely talented, shows great ability on the ball and also has a good eye for goal. There might be concerns about his age and whether or not he has the pace to play in Benitez’s system, but there’s no doubting that he would walk straight into Benitez’s starting line-up if the Toon boss got his way in the summer. Newcastle fans have every right to be excited about being linked to Mata, but they probably shouldn’t get their hopes up too much as Barcelona are reportedly interested as well.
